Demonstrates and promotes respect and sensitivity for all students’ backgrounds.
How am I respectful?
Here is a student writing about how she demonstrates self respect. Such as: asking to borrow others things, keeping her hands to herself, helping others when they need it and saying please and thank you.
Roadrunners Rock!
A roadrunner rock is a slip of paper that a staff member of the school can write for a student. To get a roadrunner rock the student either demonstrates being responsible, respectful and or safe. The staff member checks off one or multiple boxes on the slip of paper. I write on the back what the student did to earn the slip so that they understand why they were rewarded. This is an excellent way for my students to maintain a healthy balance of always being respectful, safe and kind.
How full is your bucket?
Every morning the students take a seat on the carpet. In the Tucson Unified School District we have 'bucket fillers'.
Bucket Fillers is a program based off the educational programs of Merrill Lindgren, the Bucket Man. The idea is that we all carry an invisible bucket in which hold our personal feelings.
It is important to know that we can fill our own bucket and so can others. We fill our own and others buckets by saying and doing nice things for the people around us.
Each morning we sit on the purple carpet. I ask the students who volunteer to share why or why not their bucket is full. This is an excellent way to personally connect with my students and get an idea of what everyone is going through in their personal lives and what we can do to help them.
